Alright! This is something you would see in California, lets get this out there! California is paradise, people can go out and ride motorcycle, hit some major waves and than if they feel up to it they can drive north and hit the ski slopes. It’s our turn, this has been a crazy winter for us North Dakota folk, we usually keep out bikes in the shed and dream about riding in January, February, March and April. Well the motorcycle gods have granted us a winter of riding every month and here are some local riders who decided to grab their snowboards and there bikes and head out to Huff Hills for the last day of the local ski slope to be open. The wind was crazy but they made it out to Huff Hills and did a little snowboarding and then hit the road on the motorcycles and headed back into town on the nice 20 mile stretch of highway with beautiful scenery.

California, we finally know how you feel and this is awesome! We have been to ride at least one day out of each month and hope we can continue to tell it hits 90 degrees this summer!

The original 1973 Triumph Bonneville had sat in a garage for over 15 years when Justin Taylor purchased it and saved the the poor bike from a slow rotting demise. Justin brought the Trump down to Brian at Black Sunshine Customs out of Macon, IL. Brian took roughly 3 months to change a stock Triumph into an old school ride with help from Justin. After deciding what Justin wanted to do with the bike, work began. The first thing was to chop that frame up and make it into a hardtail. Hardtail conversions look cool but if you don’t do it right, it can become downright dangerous. Brain made sure to do it right, lots of jig work and TIG welding. Once the rear suspension was gone, focus was turned to the front suspension. A springer fork was fabbed up and fitted to a 21” wheel from Warren Jr Cycle. A 16” Harley wheel keeps things rolling in the rear. BSC also added an 8-ball oil tank, from e-Bay of course, and a Caddy tail light. (no word on where they grabbed that from, if you’re missing a tail light from your ol Caddy you might wanna jump ‘em.) If you know a little history about Bonnies or English bikes you know that the shifter and brake were flip flopped from what’s common now. Instead of shifting with your right foot, they added a hand shifter and moved the rear brake over to the right side.

Even though lots of different trinkets were added, Justin didn’t ditch all the stock components. The huge headlight that Bonnevilles are known for, the gas tank, and the 724cc engine are all stock. The engine received a little TLC from Justin. “It’s not a lot of horsepower, but enough to get you from point A to point B,” said Brian.

Once all the major fabrication was done the bike was ready for some bling. That’s the first thing I noticed  as a walked around the bike at the Broken Spoke. Lime squeezer green with some pearl mixed in made this bike sparkle in the bright sun. Just imagine making this bike in 3 months, it turned out one slick bike for such little time. Once I saw the bike I knew I had to shoot some photos.

This is why I go to Sturgis. It’s not all about the partying, it’s about the bikes too. You can walk miles down here past thousands of bikes and some just pop out. You don’t need to be a pro photographer to take photos. Hell, just grab a disposable camera and if you see a bike you like, take a shot of it. Trust me, the builders love it. Seeing someone take a pic of your bike is like telling them, “dude you rock!”
